"The Foundation's support has facilitated progress towards my career goal of becoming an independent scientist and leader in clinical pain research. More importantly, it has supported my commitment to advancing research objectives that will benefit individuals limited by chronic pain and disability." Katie A. Butera, PT, DPT, is a PhD candidate at the University of Florida and the recipient of a 2018 Promotion of Doctoral Studies II Scholarship. Her high-impact dissertation study titled, "Pain as a Nervous System Disease" will focus on identiing and validating low back pain subgroups based on integration of pain-related sensory, psychological, and motor factors. Butera was also the recipient of a 2016 PODS I Scholarship and a 2017 PODS II Scholarship.
